2. Grammar — The "Big Four" HSK3 Landmarks ⚙️
This is where most learners feel the stretch. HSK3 introduces the structures that make Chinese soundChinese :
Grammar Point
Example
把 (bǎ) sentence — object displacement
我把作业做完了。(I finished my homework.)
被 (bèi) passive
我的钥匙被弟弟拿走了。(My key was taken by my brother.)
Potential complement (看得见/不完…)
这道题我做不完。(I can't finish this problem.)
Degree complement (好极了…)
热死了。(It's deadly hot.)
Complex sentences — 因为…所以、虽然…可是、如果…就、不但…而且
虽然下雨,可是我还是要去。
Plus: comparatives (比…更…), rhetorical questions (不是说…吗?), 对…来说, 越来越… .
3. The 4 Skills — What You Can Do🎤👂📖✍️
👂 Listening
Follow longer dialogues & short narratives (beginning → middle → end)
Catch main ideas + key details in announcements, simple broadcasts
🗣️ Speaking
Hold sustained conversations on familiar topics (hobbies, travel, work, health)
Express opinions, preferences, reasons: "I think… because…"
Role-play: seeing a doctor, booking a hotel, job interview, complaining politely
📖 Reading
Short narratives, ads, notices, simple emails (up to ~600 chars)
Infer meaning from context without looking up every word
✍️ Writing
String 2–3 sentences into a mini-paragraph (diary entry, leave note, simple opinion)
Old HSK3: ~100 chars
Handwrite from memory in the writing section (pinyin → character + compose-a-sentence)
By the end of a solid HSK3 course, you should be able to:
✅ Navigate daily life in China without switching to English — ordering, bargaining, taking a taxi, seeing a doctor, renting an apartment
✅ Handle basic work & study talk — introducing yourself, asking for leave, joining a meeting
✅ Tell a short story with sequence & reason (last weekend… because… although…)
